Summary
Elka Manor is a stylish elegant retreat nestled in the heart of the Catskills, located 2 hours from NYC, and minutes from Hunter Mountain.
Set in the 1,100 acres private Elka Park, the Victorian house has 6 BRs and 3 BA. The house features front and back porches, a fireplace, a heated swimming pool, firepit, and tennis court.
The Home
Set within the private 1,100 acre community of the Elka Park Club, which was founded in 1890, Elka Manor is an exquisitely restored six bedroom Victorian home with panoramic views that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A stay at this extraordinary home includes club amenities and facilities including a swimming pool, tennis courts and dining.
The double-height great room exhibits magnificent paneling, features a huge stone fireplace with ample room for seating, and a second story catwalk. A rounded alcove serves as a games alcove and there is a Steinway & Sons grand piano. (Pro Tip: make sure to bring someone who plays so they can provide background music during cocktail hour).
The round table in the oak-paneled dining room can seat up to 12-14, so the house is well appointed for a large, respectful group. There is an extensive selection of antique glassware, cut crystal, and dishware in the hutch that is made available to guests, as is additional cookware and cocktails accessories in the butler’s pantry.
The gourmet kitchen is well-stocked and has a Bosch gas range, plenty of chef’s gadgets, a set of French copper pots and pans, and a robust cookbook library for inspiration. Off the kitchen is the “Kniepe” room, which is another beautifully designed parlor, with antique furnishings and stained glass windows. Down the hall from the kitchen is the laundry room and a powder room.
From the top of the grand curved staircase, the second floor catwalk looks down into the great room and offers views out over the treetops. The first bedroom features a queen-sized contemporary four poster bed and an en-suite clawfoot tub/shower, as well as a private balcony with mountain views. The second bedroom has a twin sized bed, while access to the turret is via a staircase next to this bedroom.
Down the hall is a queen sized guest bedroom with monochrome black and white furnishings, which also features an en-suite bathroom with a walk-in shower. The final bedroom on this hallway is a cheeky yellow room with whimsical decor, and utilizes a full bathroom with a walk in shower on the same corridor.
The fourth bedroom is on the third floor and has a queen bed in a wood-paneled room with angled ceiling and windows overlooking the side yard. A half bath is shared with the final bedroom, which features two twin beds. Luxury bed linens, towels, down pillows, and comforters are offered throughout.
Dramatic mountain views can be appreciated from the sweeping wraparound porches. With multiple seating areas from wicker bistro sets, love seats and rocking chairs you’ll likely find yourself spending most of your days here under the cover for all weather enjoyment. The seven acres of private grounds are a mix of mowed paths through wildflower fields and wooded hillsides. A Weber BBQ gas grill is located off the kitchen on the bluestone patio.
The Elka Park communal amenities include a seasonal swimming pool, which is less than five minutes’ walk and which is lightly used in terms of crowds; a tennis court less than a minute walk is adjacent to the property. If desired, there is access to the clubhouse and club events, including dinner services, during the summer months. Please inquire for further details. Elka Park is less than ten minutes from Tannersville.
