Fish Creek Farmhouse is all about relaxed country living in style. This creekside gem has been beautifully appointed with wonderful antiques, pretty patterned rugs, and a fresh, inviting sensibility. The ultra-photogenic kitchen with its bank of windows and miles of marble counter space is such a success it has been used by the cabinet manufacturer for marketing purposes. There is a 6 burner Wolf gas stove and integrated appliances. The island accommodates 3 stools, guaranteed to be the morning coffee spot and a perfect perch for keeping the lucky chef company.
The kitchen is open to the cozy and airy living room, where the home’s original stone fireplace is the centerpiece, surrounded by warm furnishings, many purchased at area antique shops, in keeping with the home’s 1800 vintage. With those wonderful red upholstered chairs, the space invites lounging and conversation.
Down the hall, the study, with its navy walls, floor to ceiling paintings, and upright piano, serves many purposes. Whether it’s as a work space (but we hope that’s not necessary) with its hi-speed internet, a quiet spot for devouring a good read, or for tickling the ivories, this snug spot is a winner.
The master bedroom, with its king-size bed, is on the ground floor and is en suite with a luxurious all-white bathroom with a steam shower. The twin bedroom, also on the ground floor, has the use of a delightfully retro bathroom with tub/shower and fun original pink tile.
Upstairs the second bedroom encompasses the entire floor and features a queen-sized bed. a Victorian love-seat and TV.
The screened porch is a summertime go-to spot for all meals. Accessible off both the kitchen and study, the dining table under the chandelier has seating for six.
The outdoor space continues the theme of informal beauty, with an herb and vegetable garden occupying part of the otherwise open meadow out back. Beyond that the Plattekill Creek flows lazily by, and there is a gentle landing which is a perfect place to set up a chair in the water or to let the kids play.
